Sliders and keys

Every fader and slider works the same way, with a mouse, a finger or the keyboard.

Mouse and touch

Do this And
Click anywhere on the track The slider jumps there, and you can keep dragging.
Tap the track with a finger The slider jumps there. Swiping across it scrolls the page.
Drag the handle It moves from where it is, as far as you drag.
Double-click Back to rest: see the table below.
Turn the mouse wheel Small steps, once the slider has focus (click or Tab to it).

Only the main mouse button moves a slider, and a slider only moves the way you drag: pressing and holding without moving never changes a level.

Caution: A press jumps straight there

A stray press high on the monitor or headphone level is a sudden loud jump. Drag the handle when you’re not sure.

The mouse wheel only moves a slider you’ve clicked or tabbed to, so scrolling down the page never changes a level.

Keyboard

Tab to a slider, then:

Key Faders and sends Pan Gain Monitor, headphones
→ or ↑ +0.5 dB 1 right +0.5 dB +0.5
← or ↓ −0.5 dB 1 left −0.5 dB −0.5
Page Up +3 dB 10 right +3 dB +5
Page Down −3 dB 10 left −3 dB −5
Home Off (−∞) Full left 0 dB 0
End 0 dB Full right Nothing Nothing
Double-click 0 dB Centre 0 dB 0

Tip: End never turns anything up to full

On a fader, End goes to 0 dB, wherever you start. On the monitor and headphone levels it does nothing.

Display brightness, in Settings, moves 1% with the arrows and 10% with Page Up and Page Down. Home turns the display off.

How the faders move

  • The top of a fader runs evenly from −40 to +12 dB, where you do most of your mixing. Below −40 it’s squeezed down to off.
  • It catches at 0 dB: anything within about half a dB snaps to it.
  • From off, the first step up lands on −60 dB.

Getting around with a keyboard

  • Tab moves through each strip in order: the gear, tone, 48V, fader, then mute, solo and link.
  • Space or Enter presses a button.
  • Esc closes Settings or a channel’s settings.
  • Screen readers hear each slider’s name and value, such as “Vocal mic level, minus 6.0 decibels”.
